Tactical Reachback Extended Communications
The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory Information Technology Division, Code 5500, is working with Tactical Reachback Extended Communications (TREC) which offers extended line-of-sight (LOS) communications with wide-bandwidth support in anti-jam (AJ) waveforms and operations.
Extended LOS Communications offers: wide-bandwidth that supports anti-jam waveforms and operations, have extremely low size, weight and power (SWaP) requirements, are spectrally supportable and have been demonstrated 720Mbps at 29 nmi, 300 Mbps at 50 nmi, and 110 kbps at 100 nmi, air-to-ground with technical readiness level 6 (TRL-6) hardware.
Low-Cost Ultra-Wideband Phased Array Antennas
The demand for greater capabilities on Navy vessels has led to a proliferation of combat and weapons systems.
Such system costs are known to be the single largest driver in shipbuilding, even if costs of the weapons themselves are excluded. This affects less ships being produced annually.
The proposed ultra-wideband phased array antennas, by the Naval Research Laboratory Radar Division, Code 5314, offer significant cost-savings by supporting multi-mission operation with innovative low-cost, high-performance builds.
Other benefits include: ship real-estate savings, stability in tracking low-elevation observables, and reduced ship target signature.
