SAN DIEGO —Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific) is delighted to announce Dr. Stuart Rubin has been elevated to the rank of Fellow by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his contributions to computational intelligence.
Rubin, a senior scientist who has authored or co-authored 321 refereed publications, frequently with a focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence, also holds 36 professional U.S. patents and is a fellow of the Society for Information Reuse and Integration, the National Academy of Inventors, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was a recipient of the Navy Award of Merit for Group Achievement in 2002.
Rubin is currently working on a Super HelpDesk, which converses with students in natural language to best educate them about a specific topic. This is far more than conventional natural language processing (NLP) and involves issues of knowledge
transformation for indexing and response generation.
IEEE was formed in 1963 from the amalgamation of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the Institute of Radio Engineers. The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one-percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.
