Workshop on Cybersecurity Workforce Development
By CHIPS Magazine - July 13, 2017
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will hold a workshop on cybersecurity workforce development on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. The workshop will help in carrying out a study called for in Executive Order 13800, "Strengthening the Cybersecurity of Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure.”

In the ongoing effort to develop the national cybersecurity workforce, the Executive Order directs the Secretary of Commerce, in concert with the Secretary of Homeland Security and in consultation with other federal departments and agencies, to assess the scope and sufficiency of efforts to educate and train the U.S. cybersecurity workforce of the future. This includes cybersecurity-related education curricula, training, and apprenticeship programs, from primary through higher education.

The order also calls for a report to the president with findings and recommendations regarding how to support the growth and sustainment of the nation's cybersecurity workforce in the public and private sectors.

The workshop will provide information to inform the study and the report to the president. It will supplement responses to a request for information published in the Federal Register on July 12, 2017.

DATES: The workshop will be held 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Central Time (CT) on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

ADDRESS: The workshop will be held at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Hermann Hall Conference Center, McCormick Auditorium, 3241 S Federal St, Chicago IL 60616.

Lodging information, directions and the agenda can be found here.
