The Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) made five short videos to illustrate the importance of cybersecurity in our computer and data-driven global economy and security environment — and the urgent need to fill jobs in this exciting career field. In the videos, practicing cyber professionals from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and other organizations, discuss their work, their career paths, and offer tips on how to prepare for a career in cybersecurity.
The programs discussed showcase the wide range of cybersecurity jobs that involve the protection and defense of vulnerable systems and data, including privacy information. Links to key resources are also noted.
Because the internet, computers and smart devices are increasingly integral to our lives, the business of government and economic power, the need for ensuring the security of our networks, devices and data has become more critical and the demand for cyber workers more pressing.
The cybersecurity field offers high paying, high demand jobs with high worker satisfaction. A shortage of more than 1.5 million cybersecurity workers globally is predicted by the year 2020, according to the 2015 Global Information Security Workforce Study.
