Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced July 21, 2014, that the president nominated Navy Capt. Dawn E. Cutler for appointment to the rank of rear admiral (lower half). Cutler was serving as deputy Chief of Information, Washington, District of Columbia at the time of the announcement.
Sept. 3, 2014 , Cutler was promoted to rear admiral (lower half) in a ceremony in Arlington and assumed the duties of Navy Chief of Information.
The Chief of Information is the direct representative of the Secretary of the Navy and of the Chief of Naval Operations in all public affairs and internal relations matters. As such, the Chief of Information has the authority to implement public affairs and internal relations policies and to coordinate Navy and Marine Corps public affairs and internal relations activities.
