NORFOLK, Va. - Randy Freeman, a Poquoson, Virginia, native, was honored as Integrated Project Team (IPT) Lead of the Year at Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia.
Freeman, a Thomas Nelson Community College graduate and Christopher Newport College graduate, is the IPT Lead for Interior Communication (IC), who oversees a combined government and contractor workforce of more than 135 employees, enabling his team to achieve significant fleet modernization programmatic milestones. Freeman’s responsibilities include delivery and sustainability of Mission Assurance Category (MAC) 1 Mission Critical voice communication systems to the Navy.
Freeman said that being selected for this award is a “true honor,” and that the people in the IC Communication IPT made winning the award possible.
“The 'T' in IPT represents that, team, along with the support from [command] leadership," Freeman said. "Receiving this award shows the team is doing an awesome job for [NIWC Atlantic] and the Navy. I am very fortunate to have such an awesome team of people."
NIWC Atlantic provides systems engineering and acquisition to deliver information warfare capabilities to the naval, joint and national warfighter through the acquisition, development, integration, production, test, deployment, and sustainment of interoperable C4ISR, cyber and information technology capabilities.
