FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. — U.S. Cyber Command is once again teaming up with the Air Force Personnel Center to host a Cyber Excepted Service (CES) hiring event Nov. 28 at the Civic Center in Silver Spring, Maryland, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The CES allows USCYBERCOM to utilize hiring and recruiting events to publicize the command’s mission and describe available positions to candidates. At these CES hiring events, potential candidates have the opportunity to interact face-to-face with recruiters, hiring managers, and may ask questions of subject matter experts, too.
“This is a win-win situation for USCYBERCOM, since hiring managers have the authority under CES to interview candidates on the spot. In some cases, candidates could possibly leave with an intent-to-hire offer letter, and in addition, hiring managers have a pool of potential candidates to contact later,” said Air Force Col. Bill Norton, USCYBERCOM director of manpower and personnel.
Here are a few positions of the CES positions hiring managers are looking to fill: Capability Analyst, Lab Manager, Test & Evaluation Specialist, OPSEC Manager, Information Technology Specialist, Cyber Trainer & Instructional Analyst, Cyber Exercise Planner, Cyber Scenario Developer, Cyber Program Analyst, Budget analyst, and Operations Research Analyst.
Candidates are encouraged to pre-register at https://afcs.recsolu.com/external/events/Bb7IwK3nPpqExyOBbiJ_sQ.
At these hiring events, USCYBERCOM staff receives roughly between 300 to 600 résumés, and generally forwards approximately 80 to 120 qualified resumes to its hiring managers. Most of the positions USCYBERCOM is looking to fill at CES hiring events are mid- to senior-level. At an event last May, 18 applicants who interviewed left with same-day job offers.
Experience is highly valued in the CES, which transcends the typical timed-based approach in the competitive service. Promotions in the CES are qualification-based with no time-in-grade requirements for advancement. The Cyber Excepted Service has flexible recruitment authorities to attract the experience and attributes needed to achieve success in this domain.
USCYBERCOM operates daily against capable adversaries to achieve and maintain superiority in cyberspace. USCYBERCOM directs, synchronizes, and coordinates cyberspace planning and operations to defend and advance national interests.
If you miss this CES hiring event, there is no need to worry: another one is scheduled Dec. 3 in Columbia, Maryland, at the Sheraton Columbia Town Center from 1 – 6:30 p.m. Candidates can register for the event here: https://www.restartevents.com/december3columbia.
Are you a recent grad? U.S. Cyber Command also has a Recent Graduate/Cyber Palace Acquire internship program through the Air Force that brings on approximately 4 to6 interns annually. To learn more about this program, go to https://www.afciviliancareers.com/students/php.
