NIST IoT & Privacy Engineering Experts to lead discussions at Consumer Electronics Show
January 9-12
By CHIPS Magazine - December 26, 2017
The National Institute for Technology and Standard’s Cybersecurity for the Internet of Things (IoT) and Privacy Engineering Programs are heading to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to be held January 9-12, and are looking forward to meeting with a range of stakeholders. CES is one of the largest technology trade shows with more than 184,000 attendees and about 4,000 companies exhibiting in 2017, NIST said in a release.

The NIST Cybersecurity for IoT Program — in close collaboration with the Privacy Engineering Program — is preparing guidance to help federal agencies manage IoT security and privacy risks. This guidance is aimed at considering a practical approach to IoT security and privacy risk management.

In essence, NIST’s Cybersecurity for IoT Program works toward developing standards, guidelines, and related tools to improve the cybersecurity of connected devices and the environments in which they are deployed.

NIST and the CES will be hosting a roundtable about IoT-specific capabilities and their associated risks on January 10th. NIST’s approach for guidance is available for advanced reading in the discussion draft. NIST experts will be discussing it in the roundtable, as well as throughout the week.

NIST is eager to hear from industry, academia and government about how the IoT community can better understand the overall security and privacy environment and seeks to know what it can do to better support these areas.

If you can’t attend, you can email NIST with feedback about the discussion draft, your thoughts on the topic, and collaboration ideas at iotsecurity@nist.gov.
