CHIPS Articles: NRL’s Coalition Tactical Awareness and Response

NRL’s Coalition Tactical Awareness and Response
By DON Innovation - August 8, 2017
The Naval Research Laboratory’s Naval Center for Space Technology Space Systems Development Department designed the Coalition Tactical Awareness and Response (CTAR) which provides direct access to customized commercial satellite imagery with direct downlink to operations and fusion with national sources. The program architecture leverages machine-to-machine communication to interleave commercial and national signals intelligence (SIGINT) and geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) with timelines to support sensor tipping and cueing — the next biggest gains in intelligence.

CTAR provides:

  • Improved situational awareness on operationally relevant timelines
  • Program architecture leverages machine-to-machine communication to interleave commercial and national SIGINT and GEOINT with timelines to support sensor tipping and cueing

The next biggest gains in intelligence are not in the “What can you see” but are in the ability to “Look on demand.”
